February 2008 In showrooms from spring 2008 New Chevrolet Aveo: Striking Exterior, New Entry-Level Gasoline Model Same branding for both hatchback and notchback models Striking exterior and high-class interior Two 84 and 98 hp gasoline units, automatic transmission available The Kalos' success story began in 2002 and in 2006, the Aveo notchback sedan was added to the compact class model range. Since 2002, more than 407,000 vehicles of this compact series were sold throughout Europe . The Aveo has thus played a vital role in Chevrolet's success, which, in the first nine months of 2007, reached a new preliminary peak by chalking up total sales of 328,300 units across Europe . In spring 2008, the successor to the Kalos will be available at Chevrolet dealers. The most significant features of this fundamentally reworked model are its striking exterior, a high-class interior, and a new, even more efficient gasoline engine. Like its notchback stable mate, the new hatchback model will now be called Aveo throughout Europe . Like all Chevrolets, it will also offer attractive value for money. "The Aveo is the most important model in Chevrolet Europe's range," says Betty Moscato, Director Brand & Marketing Chevrolet Europe . "In the first eleven months of 2007, more than 79,000 people throughout Europe decided to buy one. With the new optically upgraded hatchback models, this line will continue to make an important contribution to our brand's success." Like its predecessor, the new compact class model is aimed at very different target groups – in Western Europe, predominantly two-car families who use it particularly in urban traffic because of its agility and easy handling, while in the upcoming markets of Central and Eastern Europe, as well as in certain Southern European markets, models like the Chevrolet Aveo are full-fledged family cars. The Aveo hatchback also bears Chevrolet's new design language, as characterised by the large horizontally split radiator grille with a body-coloured crossbeam, and the brand logo sitting proudly in the middle. The dynamic details include large, curved clear-glass headlamps and fog lamps that project like spotlights from the lower part of the bumper. The engine hood follows the line of the radiator grille. Eye-catching contours that run to the A-post underline the sporty look. Additional indicators in the side sections in front of the exterior mirrors add to the safety package. The side view is dominated by the body's prominent shoulder lines and the dynamic crease that sweeps from the front to the rear door. The back of the car is dominated by the solid bumper and the round tail lamps in a clear-glass housing. The interior also presents itself in a modern and inviting way. The instrument panel is clearly divided into four chrome-trimmed controls and a centre console with striking air vents, a fully integrated audio unit and large, easy-to-operate air-conditioning dials. The smooth plastic surfaces and the soft-touch finish of the dashboard and the upper half of the door panel are particularly pleasant to the touch. The new Aveo has grown slightly in size and is four centimetres longer than its predecessor. Its vital statistics:
The Aveo comes with a choice of two gasoline engines: A new 1.2-litre unit with 84 hp, and the optimised 1.4-litre unit, which now develops 98 hp. The larger gasoline engine is also optionally available with automatic transmission. Among the technical features of the new entry-level engine are two overhead camshafts with chain drive and a so-called port deactivation system with flaps in the intake ports. Both engines are more frugal than their predecessors when it comes to fuel consumption. Despite the extra horse power, both engines will consume around ten per cent less in the MVEG fuel efficiency comparison.
